Robot mower navigation: boundary wire, RTK and cameras

TRON overview · manufacturer promotional footage; use the model manual for installation

The best navigation system is the one that works with your property. Here is what to check behind the wire-free headline.

Boundary wire: a physical perimeter.

A wire-based mower follows a boundary signal from a perimeter wire installed around its working area. Changes to the lawn layout may require changes to that wire. Robo Ready's featured range uses wire-free positioning approaches, but each mower still needs its own installation and mapping process.

RTK and NetRTK: positioning with corrections.

RTK systems use satellite positioning and correction information to improve location accuracy. That correction information may come from a local reference station or a network service, depending on the exact configuration. Do not assume that two mowers described as RTK use the same equipment or have the same connection requirements.

Cameras help the mower interpret its surroundings.

Vision can support navigation and obstacle recognition alongside other sensors. It does not make a mower suitable for every hazard or remove the need for exclusions, safe clearances and supervision during setup. Lighting, vegetation, obstacles and the lawn layout can affect the way a system performs.

App access and mowing connectivity are different.

Your phone's ability to open the app is one connection. The mower's access to the positioning information it needs is another. For the L1500, check NetRTK availability and the Home Link Box signal across every area you want to mow. Advertised coverage is not a site survey: walls, trees and the placement of equipment can change the result. Confirm ongoing service charges for the supplied configuration before ordering.

Map it. Watch it. Fine-tune it.

Follow the manufacturer's pairing and positioning checks, map the lawn and add the required no-go areas. Watch the first complete run, including the return to charge, before relying on a schedule. Adjust difficult edges and passages within the manual's guidance. Our setup hub brings the model guides, app links and English manuals together.
